An Intern in our CPA firm gains hands-on exposure across tax, advisory, audit, and bookkeeping functions. This rotational role is designed to provide a well-rounded experience in the accounting profession, allowing interns to develop foundational skills under the guidance of experienced professionals. The requirements of this role are as follows:
- Student in their Junior or Senior year of college, majoring in Accounting.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- Minimum hours available to work: 24 hours a week (3 full days)
1. Tax Preparation Support
- Basic Tax Returns: Assist in preparing simple individual and business tax returns under supervision.
- Data Entry: Input client information into tax software and ensure proper organization of financial records.
- Quality Review: Help check for completeness of client records and note discrepancies for review.
2. Audit and Assurance
- Workpaper Preparation: Assist with gathering and organizing audit evidence for engagements.
- Testing Procedures: Perform basic audit testing steps (vouching, confirmations, reconciliations) under staff guidance.
- Documentation: Help ensure audit files are properly labeled, indexed, and ready for review.
3. Bookkeeping & Client Accounting
- Transaction Entry: Record expenses, income, and other journal entries in accounting software.
- Bank Reconciliations: Assist in reconciling bank and credit card statements.
- Financial Reports: Help prepare draft trial balances, income statements, and balance sheets for internal use.
4. Administrative Assistance
- Document Management: Organize and maintain digital client files across all service lines.
- Client Communication: Assist in requesting missing documents or scheduling meetings.
- Assembly & Preparation: Prepare reports, tax packages, and engagement binders for review.
5. Learning and Skill Development
- Training: Participate in firm training sessions on tax, bookkeeping, audit software, and client service practices.
- Research: Assist with researching compliance issues to support the team.
- Mentorship: Work closely with senior staff to understand best practices and develop technical skills.
6. Team Collaboration
- Cross-Department Projects: Contribute to tasks in tax, advisory, audit, and bookkeeping rotations.
- Feedback Integration: Apply supervisor feedback to improve technical and professional skills.
- Firm Culture: Participate in team meetings, firm events, and collaborative projects.
7. Technology and Tools
- Software: Learn to utilize different software and other tools essential for the role. (Quickbooks, Lacerte, CRM, etc)
- Process Familiarity: Understand firm processes for e-filing, extensions, and client document handling.
8. Compliance and Ethics
- Confidentiality: Handle client data with care, adhering to the firm’s privacy and ethical standards.
- Regulatory Awareness: Begin developing an understanding of federal, state, and local tax regulations.
